US Sales Tax Rate Updates for January 2025

The following state, county, municipal, and district taxes will change effective January 1, 2025.

The rate changes below will be automatically reflected in the Fonoa tax engine.

Alabama

Starting January 1, 2025, the Alabama Department of Revenue will administer and collect sales, use, rental, and lodging taxes for the Town of Rehobeth, Alabama, with the first local tax return due by February 20, 2025, for the tax period ending January 31, 2025. Please find the details here.

The local retail sales tax rate changes in the City of Gilbert effective from January 1, 2025. The details are listed here.

Arkansas

Arkansas approved several local sales and use tax changes with the effective date of January 1, 2025. The changes are listed here.

California

California approved several local sales and use tax rate changes effective from January 1, 2025. The changes are listed here.

Colorado

Colorado approved several local sales and use tax rate changes effective from January 1, 2025. The changes are listed here.

Georgia

Iowa

Iowa extended or removed the sunset date in some cities of Allamakee County. In addition, university Heights in Johnson County imposed a new local option tax effective January 1, 2025. The changes are listed here.

Kansas

Kansas approved several local sales and use tax rate changes in local and special jurisdictions, which became effective on January 1, 2025. The changes are listed here.

Louisiana

Louisiana increased the state sales tax rate to 5% by HB 10, effective January 1, 2025. In addition, some local sales tax rate changes were made in St. Tammany Parish and Calcasieu Parish.

Minnesota

Starting January 1, 2025, Chippewa County and Watonwan County will impose 0.5% transit sales and use tax.

Starting January 1, 2025, the 0.5% Lanesboro sales and use tax will no longer apply within the city of Lanesboro.

Missouri

Missouri adopted several local sales and use tax rate changes that became effective on January 1, 2025. The changes are listed here.

Effective from January 1, 2025, Nebraska will have some local sales and use tax rate changes. The changes are listed here.

Tennessee

Johnson County voted to increase the local sales tax rate to 2.00%. The effective date of the tax rate increase is January 1, 2025.

Vermont
